Hourglass Boat

(I wrote this in 2007.)

I thought there was nothing wrong
But all of these songs
Felt as if there was a single brass instrument
Quietly hitting all of its sad low notes
Through everything that I just wrote
While grasping out to unraveled the knot in the sail's rope
Unsure of how to keep this boat of mine afloat (afloat)
Without my trusty telescope
Searching across the horizon through daily horoscopes
Trying to understand myself eventually, I would hope (would hope)

Sailing underneath a million of stars
I begin to feel so small (small)
A sigh slowly begins to depart from these lips of mine
Holding onto an hourglass half filled that defines
The meaning of
My soul,
My heart,
The very depths of my mind

Drifting aimlessly on my little boat
Not knowing the next direction the wind will blow
Although I still have the desire to know...
If I let the hourglass go..
And let it fall upside down
Will it reverse all of the times
I catch myself singing along to nothing but sad love songs?
I would (would, would) hope (hope)

(Chorus)
A single brass instrument
Quietly hitting all of its sad low notes (notes)
While grasping out to unraveled the knot in the sail's rope (rope)
Wondering if anyone else (anyone else) (would grab) would grab the other end
Maybe I was meant to stay in such an eternal slope
Unsure of how to keep this boat of mine afloat (afloat)
Without my trusty telescope (telescope)
Searching across the horizon through daily horoscopes
Trying to understand myself eventually, I would hope

Fingers slipped, loosen grip
The hourglass broke on upcoming obstacles
Speckle of shards,
And glistening sand,
Running out the palms of my hands
Brown teary eyes could understand
All the times I catch myself singing along to nothing but sad love songs
